What is the best digital camera brand to buy?
Q. I now own a HP digital camera that works just fine. But before digital came along, I had a Nikon film camera which I just loved. Everytime I see a professional, they are using a Nikon. To me digital can't even compare to film but it's nice to be able to see the pictures before they are developed. I have taken thousands of pictures over the years that are still on my SD cards. Don't get me wrong my digital camera is great and I have developed hundreds of the pictures, but when using digital you just can't stop at one picture.

A. Asking for an opinion between Nikon or Canon is like asking about religion. Both sides will argue until they fall unconcious. The truth is, both Nikon and Canon make fantastic D-SLR cameras. If you owned a Nikon film SLR in the past and still have lenses, you already have a start on a Nikon kit. Almost all Nikon "F" mount lenses made will work on current Nikon digital SLR cameras. A recent exception is the Nikon D40 and D40x - they will autofocus only with Nikon "AF-S" lenses. Canon, on the other hand, is as equally used by professionals as Nikon. They don't have the decades of lens compatibility that Nikon does, but they do have a very developed hypersonic motor focusing system that they have used since the creation of the Canon "EF"… [cont.]

Are digital pianos good for a beginner to learn on?
Q. My son has just started piano lessons and we want to get a piano for him to practice on at home. Would it be best to get a digital piano, or a more traditional piano? I know that the digital pianos do not need tuning, which sounds like a big advantage. Are they any major drawbacks with a digital piano?

A. My lady teaches piano and she is happy to talk digital pianos but one should get keyboards with velocity sensitive keys. They feel much more like a real piano and assist the development of strength needed in the fingers. 88 keys a minimum. There are some good secondhand bargains available. xxFJ

What sound cards are good for digital output to receivers?
Q. I am planning on building a Home Theater PC. I want as few cables as possible cluttering up the back of my components and want to go all digital. What sound cards have digital outs so I can run a sole digital output connection (optical, coaxial) to a digital input on my receiver.

A. My sound blaster Audigy has a digital output. My Audigy, is an external USB device, howver, there are PCI cards available as well. I am assuming the cards will have the same output as the external device.
